Market Risks: Leading Through External Challenges | Cynthia M. Bollinger |

Cynthia Bollinger Ms. Bollinger is nationally recognized as a leader in implant practice management and marketing, facilitating the growth of hundreds of surgical practices throughout the country. She is also the Founder and Director of the Institute for Dental Implant Awareness, a non-profit consumer awareness organization. She lectures nationally and internationally on topics related to the business of implant dentistry, marketing strategies, patient education, the role of the Implant Coordinator, and the future of specialty practices.

Session Information on Market Risks: Leading Through External Challenges

The entire dental profession is in transition and the landscape of the implant market had changed dramatically over the past few years. The advent of “implant super centers” and the increase in the number of megadontists and one-stop shop dental clinics threaten the continued success of the traditional referral-based business model for specialists. This presentation will explore the market risks and challenges facing OMS practices and provide effective strategies for addressing these issues and creating a successful paradigm for the future of the specialty.

Operational Risks: Leading Through Internal Challenges | Debra K. Udey |

Deb Udey Debra K. Udey is Vice President of Risk Management at OMSNIC. Ms. Udey has been in the Medical Malpractice field for 33 years, 12 of which were spent in medical malpractice claims for a physician owned company as well as in a hospital setting. Since then, she has put her claims experience to good use on the Risk Management side of professional liability insurance. At OMSNIC, Ms. Udey participates in the risk management program, and is editor of OMSNIC’s newsletter, the Monitor.

Operational Risks: Leading Through Internal Challenges

Though Oral Surgeons and their staff are well trained and render excellent care, claims still occur. Patient safety is the goal, and risk management education is designed to increase patient safety and thereby reduce the incidence of claims. This presentation will look at the results of OMSNIC’s risk assessment taken by the members to highlight areas in the office practice where improvement can contribute to patient safety.

Don't Risk Your Business—DEA Regulation Training | Jack Crowley |

Southern Anesthesia+SurgicalJack Crowley is the President of Crowley Associates LLC, founded in 2001, a consulting firm that provides counsel, training, and services to clients involved in the manufacturing and distribution of controlled substances. His company was founded to assist with strategic alliances between DEA registrants and the Drug Enforcement Administration, and to help and support clients once they have identified a sensitive problem.

Most recently Jack served for 10 years (2002-2012) as the Executive Director, Controlled Substances Act Compliance for Purdue Pharma L.P., devoting his energies to developing, implementing and monitoring compliance standards for controlled substances at all U.S. sites of Purdue and its associated companies.

Prior to 2001, Jack worked at the Drug Enforcement Administration (1973 to 2001) in a number of positions including Supervisory Investigator in the New England Field Division, Boston, MA; Staff Coordinator and Chief of the International Drug Unit, Office of Diversion Control, and Supervisory Investigator and Diversion Program Manager in the New England Field Office, Boston Office.

Don't Risk Your Business—DEA Regulation Training

Jack Crowley, with 28 years’ experience, on behalf of Southern Anesthesia and Surgical, will be presenting DEA regulation training on 5 key topics. The topics covered will include ordering, receiving, storage security, disposal options, and general record keeping of controlled substances in the oral surgery practice regarding both federal and state requirements. Crowley will discuss current as well as pending and proposed legal requirements and will also be able to cite situational examples of non-compliant practices the ramifications thereof. He will end the session with an open forum, during which time Mr. Crowley will discuss questions or concerns with attendees.

Paul Edwards Paul Edwards has over twenty years’ experience as a manager and owner. He is an expert in human resources and specializes in helping medical offices solve employee issues. During his talks and articles, Paul passes on the benefits of his knowledge and experience he gained having worked with hundreds of medical practices in all 50 states. In addition to experience speaking in front of thousands of practice owners, Paul is also a featured writer for The Profitable Dentist and Dental Town Magazine, among others. Over the past seven years, his HR expertise, employment litigation avoidance techniques and customized employee handbooks have been successfully implemented by hundreds of offices. He speaks regularly at employment education seminars across the country.

Session Information: Workplace Drama: Leading Through Team Challenges

From negative attitudes to chronic absenteeism, there is no limit to the employee issues that practice owners and managers must address on a daily basis. This course will teach you proven strategies for successfully resolving difficult employee issues, scripts for responding in emotionally charged situations, and tips for protecting yourself and your practice from liability.

Travel Timing

The conference will open at 5:00 p.m. Sunday night with registration and a cocktail reception with light hors d'eouvres.

Sessions begin at 8:00 a.m. Monday morning, with breakfast before. The conference will adjourn on Wednesday at noon.

The registration fee includes the Sunday night cocktail reception; breakfast, lunch, and a dinner reception on Monday; breakfast and lunch on Tuesday; and breakfast on Wednesday.
